The St. Charles Companies presents Marenje Marimba, a children’s marimba ensemble, playing on handmade, acoustic, wooden instruments, in a free concert on Friday, July 26th at 7 PM. The ensemble blends pan-African songs and rhythms together with Zimbabwean marimba parts to create music that brings “contagious joy and positivity.” Performances are family friendly and often participatory with danceable, high energy traditional Zimbabwean music along with some original compositions on the marimbas. The band has performed in numerous venues around the area including the Takoma Park Folk Festival, where they will perform again this September. The band is based in Fredericksburg, VA and is funded by the Downtown Greens Community Garden.

St. Charles Companies VP of Public Affairs and Community Relations, Craig Renner, emphasized the family friendly vibe inherent in the Sunset Concert Festival events, saying, “Marenje Marimba reflects our strong interest in showcasing musicians and songwriters with diverse musical backgrounds and styles to provide a unique and highly experiential evening for our residents and surrounding communities. We invite everyone to come share the energy, enjoy the cool breeze off the lake and celebrate the start of the weekend with us.”
Chick-Fil-A will be on hand to sell delicious chicken sandwiches, soft drinks, and other treats. Local artists will have their wares on display, and other food vendors will be on hand as well.
The Sunset Concert Festival is a summer-long arts festival sponsored by The St. Charles Companies. Featuring a variety of local artists and musical genres, the concerts are being held every Friday night through August 30th.
