The Sunset Concert Festival this week aims to bring everyone to their feet with vintage country music artist Karen Collins and The Backroads Band, on stage for a free concert at the St. Charles lakefront on Friday August 24th.
One of the Washington area's top honky tonk bands, The Backroads Band plays classic country music like it was played back then. Their promise? According to their website, “In no time at all, they'll have you out on the dance floor doing a boot scootin' two step or snuggling up close for a buckle polishing slow tune.” Their sound is vintage country from the 1940s-1970s plus original roots songs written in that early country style. Karen is a coal miner's daughter from Southwest Virginia. She grew up listening to country music, and the influence of Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams and other country greats is evident in the early country sound of her original songs.
Along with the concert, residents and visitors from Waldorf and Southern Maryland can enjoy the St. Charles Farmers Market from 4-7:30 p.m. on Friday with delicious produce, fresh flowers, desserts, baked goods, honey and hand-crafted soaps and can dine on chicken sandwiches, salads, wraps, sides and drinks from Chick-fil-A®.
The Sunset Concert Festival is a summer-long arts festival sponsored by The St. Charles Companies and the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission. Featuring a variety of local artists and musical genres, the concerts are being held every Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.
