Annual Southern Maryland Event Benefits UM Charles Regional Medical Center
Blue Crabs Fan Fest Completes Family-Oriented Event

St. Charles, Maryland, one of America's best-selling master planned communities, has joined with DC Road Runners to host the annual St. Charles Running Festival. The event, which features a 10-miler, 5K and Chick-fil-A Kids Fun Run and is open to runners of all abilities, will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Regency Furniture Stadium in St. Charles.

Proceeds from the event will benefit UM Charles Regional Medical Center, a not for profit hospital serving the Southern Maryland region in its mission to provide the community with a full range of health care services.  In support of the Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation funding priorities for this year, the Running Festival will help fund the renovations of the Birthing Center, which welcomes more than 800 babies into our community annually.  Registration is open at

"We are happy to once again host runners from around the region here in St. Charles," said Craig J. Renner, vice president for marketing for The St. Charles Companies. "This family friendly annual event highlights the array of amenities that our community has to offer for residents in our new homes and apartments, while encouraging participants to enjoy a full day of healthy activities." Mr. Renner continued, “Our history of community-building is the reason we are so pleased to make UM CRMC the beneficiary of this event. All entry fees will be dedicated to ensuring that residents of our community will continue to receive quality medical services at our top-performing local hospital."

The festival will lead runners through the roads of Charles County with Regency Furniture Stadium serving as the focal point. The scenic and mostly flat 10-mile course has runners starting at Regency Furniture Stadium, then proceeding north on Piney Church Road, west on Billingsley Road, and south on St. Charles Parkway. The second half of the race continues south on Radio Station Road, east to La Plata Road, then back to Piney Church Road once again before finishing outside of the stadium.

The 5K course starts and finishes at the stadium and ventures through the neighborhoods on Piney Church Road. The Chick-fil-A Kids Fun Run will take place in the stadium.

The day's events coincide with the annual Fan Fest celebration hosted by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, including autograph sessions with team players, access to the kids’ fun zone at the park, and more.

"This is a growing first-class event for our community and for Charles County," said Mr. Renner. "We are proud to join great partners like Chick-fil-A and the Blue Crabs in putting this event together to benefit UM CRMC. This event will have something for everyone -- running aficionados, their families, baseball fans, and people who just want to enjoy an early spring day in the beautiful master planned community of St. Charles.”
