Saturday, November 30, 2013 is Small Business Saturday®, an initiative started by American Express in 2010 designed to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. Our St. Charles community is rich with highly successful small and locally owned businesses, from nail salons to beloved local restaurants. And research has shown that when you shop at independent, locally owned businesses, 52% of what you spend stays right in your community, reinvested in organizations and services that make our neighborhoods thrive. Last year, the Small Business Saturday initiative was estimated to have encouraged $5.5 BILLION in localized spending.
As St. Charles has continued to grow, we have maintained our original focus on walkable neighborhoods that encourages our children to walk to school, provides a pathway by a serene lake on a beautiful day, brings cheers to a starry evening at a Blue Crabs baseball game and encourages small and local businesses to locate in easy to access, neighborhood placed retail locations. We invite you to explore your neighborhood small and independently owned businesses this holiday season.
You can find a listing of small businesses in St. Charles here and there are resources available to support small businesses who want to participate here.
Small businesses make our community a better place to live, and support the charities, youth sports leagues, and educational endeavors that support so many families in Charles County. Please give them your support as you begin your holiday shopping.
