Peace, Baby! Batiks

Thursday, June 16, 2011

If you missed our artists’ night on May 20th, then you didn’t have the opportunity to peruse the stylish baby and toddler clothing by Etsy crafter and Waldorf resident, Cori Meloney.  While her three year old son sleeps, this stay at home mom dreams up vibrant Tee’s, onesies, dresses, and tank tops, including a few options for youths and adults.  In case you’re not familiar with the term batik, Wikipedia defines it as follows:

Batik (English: /ˈbætɪk/ or /bəˈtiːk/) is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Batik or fabrics with the traditional batik patterns are found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China, Azerbaijan, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Singapore.

Think tie-dye but more refined.  All of Peace, Baby! Batiks’ 100 percent cotton creations are dyed in Cori’s kitchen and the colorful garments are adorned with hearts, flowers, dogs, cars, peace signs, guitars and other graphics.  Prices range from $8 for a hat or infant bodysuit to $23 for a ladies’ tank top.  Check them out for your own kids or for a unique gift at
