Blue Crabs Fan Fest Part of Day Long Series of Fun Events

Runners of all ages and levels of dedication that the fourth annual St. Charles Running Festival will take place on April 12, 2014 at Regency Furniture Stadium. The festival will consist of three different distances (10 miles, 5k and a kids fun run) and proceeds from the event will benefit the College of Southern Maryland and Special Olympics.

"We're happy to once again host runners from around the region and around the country here in St. Charles," said Craig J. Renner, vice president for marketing for The St. Charles Companies. "This is a great event that highlights all that our community has to offer, including great new homes and apartments, while enjoying a full day of family friendly activities."

The festival will lead runners throughout the roads of Charles County with Regency Furniture Stadium serving as the focal point. The scenic and mostly flat 10-mile course has runners starting at Regency Furniture Stadium, then proceeding north up Piney Church Road, west on Billingsley Road, and south on St. Charles Parkway. The second half of the race continues south on Radio Station Road, east on to La Plata Rd, then back on to Piney Church Road once again before finishing outside of the stadium.

The 5k course starts and finishes at the stadium and ventures through the neighborhoods on Piney Church Rd. The Chick-fil-A Kids Fun Run will be contained within the parking lots of the stadium. The day's events coincide with the annual Fan Fest celebration hosted by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Entrants in the kids run, which will take place on the field at the stadium, will receive two free tickets to a Blue Crabs game, a Chick-fil-A kid's meal, and a youth race shirt.

The College of Southern Maryland returns as a charity beneficiary for the second consecutive year. Earlier this month The St. Charles Companies presented $1,500 in proceeds from the 2013 St. Charles Running Festival to support establishing a women’s lacrosse team at the College of Southern Maryland.

"This is a growing and first-class event for our community and our county," said Mr. Renner. "It displays a lot of the best that the county has to offer, it kicks off another great season of Blue Crabs baseball, and this year participants in the fun run can win a chicken nugget party at Chick-fil-A."
