It sure seems that the Christmas spirit has hit the Southern Maryland area a lot sooner than years past. Last week while I was out getting the boys haircuts, we spotted the small Christmas tree up in the shopping plaza. And Santa Claus has arrived at the St. Charles Towne Center Mall. As we head into the holiday season, here is a list of some of the fun family events in the Southern Maryland area. The holidays can get hectic and stressful. Be sure to schedule in some family time to enjoy this season.

Mattawoman Creek Art Center Holiday Show at Smallwood State Park: Every Friday-Sunday now through December
Are you looking for unique gifts for friends and family? Find paintings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, and other handmade items. For more information visit Mattawoman Creek Art Center.

La Plata United Methodist Craft Fair: Saturday, November 22 from 9:00 am-2:00 pm
Vendors, artists, and bakers will have items for sale. From children's crafts to a used book nook, there is something for everyone! For more information call (301) 645-4002.

Waldorf Winter Market: Sunday, November 30 from 2:00-6:00 pm
Head to O'Donnell Lake (next to Waldorf West Library) to stroll through the first annual winter artisan market. Recreating the style of a German Christmas Market, the market will feature gourmet pastries and desserts, homemade soaps and candles, Yule logs, jewelry, a photo session with local photographer Fotos by Nadine and also a local farmer selling Christmas trees outside. The market is hosted by Fotos by Nadine and Cynthia Ann Desserts. For additional information, visit their Facebook page

College of Southern Maryland Presents the Nutcracker: November 28-30
The Nutcracker show has been a holiday ritual for American audiences for many years. Enjoy the sights and spectacular dancing at the College of Southern Maryland Nutcracker performance. To purchase tickets or for additional information, call (301) 934-7828, or visit the CSM's Arts page.

Victorian Christmas at Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House: December 6-7
The Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House re-opens every year for one weekend to celebrate a Victorian Christmas. Enjoy Victorian period Christmas decorations, a large collection of antique dolls, and a reenactment of the Civil War. Mr. and Mrs. Claus also will be present! For more information visit Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House.

Caring Santa: Sunday, December 7 from 8:30-10:00 am
Children with special needs and their families can enjoy a subdued and crowd free visit with Santa at the St. Charles Towne Center. Be sure to make reservations through Event Brite.

We would love to hear what local activities your family will be participating in this year!
