Community Solidarity Day

Monday, October 17, 2016

The St. Charles Companies is pleased to join County Commissioner Debra Davis, Lifestyles of Maryland, and the Charles County NAACP in hosting the first ever Community Solidarity Day on Saturday, October 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Wharf at O’Donnell Lake complex in St. Charles.

“We’ve all seen the problems and challenges in other communities around the country,” said Commissioner Davis in announcing the event. “Our goal is to bring together all aspects of our community—businesses, public safety providers, community groups, and health service providers—to provide an environment for safe, healthy, and positive interaction between all the people who call Charles County home.”

All events for the day are free, and will include a petting zoo, inflatable rides, performances by youth gospel choirs, chances for children to explore public safety and work vehicles, a football skills competition for teenagers, health and safety exhibits, martial arts performances, and much more.

Public safety and health exhibits will be provided by University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, SMECO and more. In addition to St. Charles, sponsors of the event include GS Proctor and Associates, SMECO, Outdoor Creations, Chick fil A, SkyZone, Outdoor Creations, Facchina, Walton Development, Scott Law Group, Shasho and Associates, and Evergreen trash removal services. A portion of the proceeds will be used by the Westlake Business Association to establish a scholarship program for Charles County students who wish to pursue a career in public safety after graduation.

“We recognize our responsibility to support all aspects of our community, and we’re proud to join Commissioner Davis, Lifestyles, the NAACP and all the sponsors in putting this event together,” said St. Charles Companies President Mathew M. Martin. “We’re all in to bring our community together and keep St. Charles and Charles County a great place to live, work, and do business.”
